Pentecost 2025

Updated: August 7, 2025

In Acts 2, one can see how Pentecost dramatically impacted the early church. In fact, many Christians regard Pentecost as the birthdate of the Christian church. Pentecost marks the fulfillment of Jesus Christ's promise to send the Holy Spirit to empower and guide His disciples. According to the biblical account, the disciples were gathered in Jerusalem when suddenly a sound like a rushing wind filled the place, and tongues of fire appeared over each of them. They were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different languages, a manifestation of the Spirit's empowering presence. “Look, are not all these who speak Galileans? And how is it that we hear each in our own language in which we were born? ... we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God” (Acts 2:7, 8, 11) exclaimed those in Jerusalem. On that day, the church multiplied in number from 120 to 3,000 believers.
